Icy Ball Band
This lyric video for Taiwanese band Icy Ball evokes 1980s nostalgia, portraying love and longing. A still composition, it features only animated fireworks and a neon light box outside the window, symbolizing fleeting moments. The design immerses viewers in the melancholic atmosphere of a young woman waiting alone for her lover.
The Retro Vibe
To establish an authentic retro feel, I gathered references from old buildings in Taipei and curated 80s furniture, like a classic Pepsi can and a CRT TV. Each item was meticulously chosen to evoke a sense of time and place. By anchoring the scene in recognizable cultural artifacts, I wanted to transport viewers to another era, letting the space tell a story beyond words.

Creating Coherence
Consistency was key in building this world. To enhance engagement, I included Easter eggs like posters of the band’s old albums, revealed only when fireworks light up the room. I also recreated the light box from Edward Yang’s Taipei Story, subtly connecting the scene to Taipei’s cinematic heritage. These details reward observant viewers, enriching the protagonist’s story.
